Board

Doug is a member of the Management Engagement, Remuneration and Audit Committees.

Doug McCutcheon joined the Board in 2012. He is the President of Longview Asset Management Ltd. and Gormley Limited, independent investment firms. Until 2012, Doug was an investment banker at S.G. Warburg and then UBS for 25 years, most recently as the head of Healthcare Investment Banking for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific. Doug is involved in several philanthropic organisations with a focus on healthcare and education. He attended Queen’s University, Canada.

Sven H. Borho, CFA, joined the Board in 2018. He is a founder and Managing Partner of OrbiMed. Sven heads the public equity team and he is the Portfolio Manager for OrbiMed’s public equity and hedge funds. He has been a Portfolio Manager for the firm’s funds since 1993 and has played an integral role in the growth of OrbiMed’s asset management activities. He started his career in 1991 when he joined OrbiMed’s predecessor firm as a Senior Analyst covering European pharmaceutical firms and biotechnology companies worldwide. Sven studied business administration at Bayreuth University in Germany and received an MSc (Econs.) in accounting and finance, from The London School of Economics. He is a citizen of both Germany and Sweden.

Chair of the Nominations Committee and a member of the Audit, and Management Engagement and Remuneration Committees. Dr Rawal is also a Senior Independent Director.

Dr Rawal, a physician with 25 years’ experience in life sciences research and development, has held senior executive roles in drug development and scientific evaluation in four global pharmaceutical companies. She has also worked in senior roles with two medical research funding organisations: Wellcome Trust and Cancer Research UK.

Bina is a non-executive director of PHP Plc and was formerly a trustee on the board of the Social Mobility Foundation.

Tim was formerly the chief financial officer at Caledonia Investments PLC. Prior to this role he was chief financial officer at Wellcome Trust, the global charitable trust focused on health research, and at Virgin Atlantic Limited. Tim is a non-executive director of the British Standards Institution and of Oxford University Endowment Management, plus a trustee of Babraham Institute; he chairs the respective audit and risk committees of these institutions. He is also a non-executive director of Premier Marinas Group. He has an extensive and broad financial background.

Tim studied chemistry at Oxford University.

A Chartered Accountant by training, Jo is an experienced investor with a background in private equity with LGV Capital Partners Limited, where she was on the board. Jo also has extensive experience of both global investment trusts and healthcare, including life sciences.

She is a non-executive director of Octopus AIM VCT. She is also the non‑executive chair of Babraham Research Campus Limited.

Jo was formerly a non-executive director of Henderson International Income Trust plc, and of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Enterprises Limited.

Jo studied chemistry at Oxford University.

Sian has a background in investment banking and policy development. She currently holds a diverse portfolio of non-executive board positions including as a non-executive director of Pacific Assets Trust plc and of The Lindsell Train Investment Trust plc. She also holds advisory and trustee positions at Cerno Capital, Aurra Studios, the Almeida Theatre and The Sanctuary Counsel, an advisory firm based in Westminster. Sian finished her term as a non-executive director on the JP Morgan Multi Asset Growth and Income plc board in March 2024.

Until October 2023, Sian held the position of chief operating officer at the CT Group, a global strategic consultancy group. Prior to this, she served as an executive director of the Legatum Institute and earlier in her career, she was managing director of Policy Exchange, one of the UK’s most successful policy think tanks. Her earlier professional experiences also include senior roles in investment banking, where she served as a company analyst at Enskilda Securities and was director of sales at Societe Generale.

William has extensive experience in the investment trust sector from his previous roles as head of closed end funds and head of investment companies at Aberdeen Group (formerly Aberdeen Asset Management PLC). He was also formerly a non-executive director on the board of Primary Health Properties Plc and a director of the Association of Investment Trust Companies.

William is a consultant to board performance and external evaluation specialist Cyclico.
